After more than seven decades in the harsh Tongass National Forest, Chief Shakes Tribal House was on the verge of falling to pieces.  In April 2012, the restortion project began.

Due to the site's inclusion on the National Historic Registry, materials and building styles had to mirror the previous Tribal House, which was constructed in 1940 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.  Project Manager Todd White and his crew, along with Master Carver Steve Brown and carvers, have created a breathtaking structure, ready for another 7 plus decades of Wrangell weather.
